Piombino is part of the province of Livorno. The city is developing on the promontory, separated from Elba by Channel Piombino. The city is the capital of the Val di Cornia, and has thus made important by the numerous deposits of ferrous minerals, which gave the boot to a rapid development of metallurgical activities that have been carrying forward the Corsican the millennia.
